South Texas Mall

We hiked down to the Rio Grande river from our campground and as you can see its not all that big. Seems that a river that is a border for your country should be a lot bigger.
Before 9/11 you used to be able to walk across the river here and visit the village of Bodillas, Mexico. The village has no electricity and it’s about as remote as the Big Bend Park. But now crossing here is forbidden. So as you walk along the river you will find some rocks with handmade jewelry, walking sticks and other souvenirs displayed. Sort of the local mall. There is a note, explaining pricing info and explaining that they need the sales or donations for their village school and there is a container for your payment or donation. The costs here are less than half the cost for the same items in the park gift shop.
