After enjoying Big Bend National park it was time to get out of Terlingua and head north to Alpine, TX. Alpine in the big town near here. All the folks who live and work in the park, in addition to those in the other outlying areas, have to drive the 80 miles to Alpine in order to take care of all their business. There is no Wal-Mart in Alpine. You have to drive another 80 miles to find one. It appears that towns can survive without a Wal-Mart.
We learned that if you get to Alpine late for lunch you are going to have a hard time finding anyone who is serving after 2pm. We did find the Texas Fusion restaurant was serving all afternoon. It turned out to be very good choice. So, if you’re ever in Alpine make sure to give the Texas Fusion a try.
