Old Hundred Gold Mine

The Old Hundred Gold Mine tour is conducted in a closed mine near Silverton, CO. The mine is as it was when mining stopped there in 1972. The History Channel has done a broadcast concerning the mine and has declared it the best mine tour in Colorado.

You have to drive down several dirt roads to get to the mine. The tour is conducted by actual hard rock miners. They ride you 1/3 mile into the mine on the mine trammer, the electric mine train that took us 1600ft. underground. They not only showed us the equipment but they also operated each one. We got to see how a tugger hoist, air slusher and a mucking machine work.

The miner showed us how to drill a pattern of holes for placing dynamite charges to break loose the ore. He also showed how to prepare the dynamite and the placing of the charges. Really neat.
